Early On, Part C
Focused Monitoring Community Notification

The Michigan Department of Education, Offices of Special Education and Early Intervention Services (OSE/EIS) and Early Childhood Education and Family Services (ECE/S) has initiated an Early On Focused Monitoring at the Shiawassee Regional Education Service District from Monday, November 26 through Wednesday, November 28, 2007. The purpose of the focused monitoring is to investigate factors that affect the performance of babies and toddlers with disabilities and their families and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.

An OSE/EIS team will conduct the focused monitoring review. The following priority areas will be examined during the visit:

  1. The rate of babies and toddlers identified for Early On services;
  2. The timeliness of initial evaluation, assessment, and the development of an initial family service plan; and
  3. The transition process experienced by enrolled children and their families at exit from Early On at age three.

The Focused Monitoring Team will review files and records, visit service provider locations and interview families, administrators, service providers, LICC members, teachers, and Early On staff. In addition, parents will be invited to participate in forums to share information about their Early On experience

A summary of the findings will appear in this web page at the conclusion of the review. Further information may be obtained by accessing MDE, OSE/EIS’ Monitoring Website at www.cenmi.org/cims or by phone at 517-335-0465.

Information pertaining to cleaning practices @Shiawassee RESD from Dennis Hodge:

I realize there is a concern developing over the staph infection that has been in the news lately.  I would like everyone to know that our custodians are aware of this and are taking precautions to help prevent its spread.  I am not trying to alarm anyone, however I would like to inform everyone that we are taking measures to be pro active in preventing it’s possible spread.  Our custodians use a product (#49 Germicidal Neutral Cleaner) in their everyday cleaning procedures that has been tested against the Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)-staph  and many other viruses and infectious strains.  This product is a hospital grade anti-bacterial, germicidal cleaner that is environmentally safe.  I have cut sheets available on the testing data for this product if anyone is concerned enough to review them, upon request.
