Shiawassee RESD does the intake processing for persons wanting to Substitute teach within Shiawassee County. The requirements for Substituting within the county are one of the following: A Teaching Certificate (need a copy), 90 Semester credit hours or 135 Term from a 4 year accredited College or University (need Official Transcripts). Community College credits are only accepted if they have transferred to a 4 year accredited College or University. We also need a current criminal history background check (This report needs to be dated after January 1, 2006).

You can stop by our Corunna office and pick-up a Substitute Teacher packet that has all the paperwork you need to fill out. Fingerprint information is included within the packet with companies listed that are designated to do fingerprinting. You will receive a receipt at fingerprinting in which we will need a copy. The cost range for fingerprinting at this time is $65- $70.

If you do not have a teaching certificate we will apply for a Substitute Permit with the State. They will invoice you directly for $45 which allows you to Substitute within the State of Michigan for the current school year.
