The Shiawassee Prevention Network's Youth Engagement group is partnering with Jennifer's Place to host a prevention focused Halloween party for high school aged kids on November 1^st from 5 PM to 7 PM! 

This is a free event and there will be food, prizes, and activities. There will be a costume contest with several different categories, an "Escape the Vape" escape room, and more! Building Early Emotional Skills or BEES is a four-week class for parents and other primary caregivers of children 0-3 that teaches about how young children develop social emotional skills and helps give parents skills to deal with the stress of caring for children and help their children develop strong social emotional skills. BEES will help you learn about:

• Your child’s temperament and stress
• Your triggers and how to manage them
• Being reflective about feelings and emotion coaching
• Reducing biting, conflict and frustration and handling tantrums
• Building a solid foundation for tomorrow

Accidental Astronauts | Follow the adventures of Sy, Annie, and their dog Armstrong as they embark on an unexpected journey into space! Explore the Earth, Sun and Moon system with a wise-cracking starship computer. Follow an asteroid as it crashes into the Moon and bounce along the lunar surface. Get up close and personal with a solar storm, and gain a new appreciation of our home planet.

Recommended for ages 3-8 years old.

During sensory-friendly shows, we turn the lights up and turn the sound down to provide a safe, welcoming environment for our friends with special needs. Sensory-friendly shows will now feature open captioning for the hearing-impaired community. Be yourself and find the best spot in the house to enjoy the show! Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

 Explore your Science Center with select exhibits altered to reduce sounds, scents, and lighting stimuli. Guests can expect a limited building capacity, pop-up activity, and map designating the sensory experiences in each exhibit.

Join 4-H staff as we meet scientists from across Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, the MSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and more! Take a look into life as a fisheries and wildlife researcher and manager! Follow along as we climb through bogs, peer into bear dens, mist net songbirds, snorkel for fish, or perhaps even tag deer. Meet researchers, learn about their field work, and the education and career path they've followed to get there.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:
Sessions last approximately 30 minutes and will feature 1-2 guest researchers. Following presentations, youth will be encouraged to ask questions to learn more through a live Q&A with scientists. Suggested audience age is 12-19 years. Viewers are encouraged to watch together with their families.

This series is open to both 4-H members and non-4-H members. The series is free of charge.

• Learning how to manage disagreements with respect and open-mindedness is an important part of adulthood.  In this workshop, youth will gain essential tools for navigating tough conversations, whether with friends, family or classmates.  Participants will leave with strategies to approach conflict confidently, express themselves respectfully and find common ground with others.  Youth will find ways to handle challenging discussions with patience and empathy, paving the way for stronger, healthier relationships.

Kick off the holiday season with Owosso Main Street’s annual Glow celebration on Friday, November 28th! Begin the evening at 5:30 PM with the festive Glow 5k, a perfect way to burn off that Thanksgiving feast while enjoying the sparkling streets of historic Owosso.

At 7 PM, the Glow Parade lights up Washington Street with dazzling floats, music, and plenty of holiday cheer. After the parade, head to Main Street Plaza for the highly anticipated Christmas tree lighting and a visit with Santa. Free horse & carriage rides through town will be offered on Exchange Street, and downtown shops will be open late with special holiday offers—perfect for staying warm while supporting local businesses.
