Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA)

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federally funded employment and training program.  The Shiawassee RESD WIOA program serves youth 14-21 years of age. To qualify for the program, students must meet federal, low income guidelines and meet one or more of the following barriers to employment:

  • deficient in basic literacy skill (at or below grade level 8.9 in reading and/or math)
  • juvenile offender
  • foster child
  • homeless or runaway
  • pregnant or parenting
  • student with a disability

Students develop job skills through employment in public, private, or non-profit organizations.

If you would like more information regarding the WIOA program or are an employer that would like to host a student please call the WIOA Coordinator at the Shiawassee Regional Education Service District @ 989-743-3471. The Shiawassee RESD WIOA program is a partner with MichiganWorks!, various community agencies, the Shiawassee RESD work study program and all eight school districts.
