Class Information

Parenting stress? New baby in the house? Trouble with tantrums? Learn how to help your young child manage their strong emotions! Building Early Emotional Skills or BEES is a four-week class for parents and other primary caregivers of children 0-3 that teaches about how young children develop social emotional skills and helps give parents skills to deal with the stress of caring for children and help their children develop strong social emotional skills. BEES will help you learn about:

• Your child’s temperament and stress
• Your triggers and how to manage them
• Being reflective about feelings and emotion coaching
• Reducing biting, conflict and frustration and handling tantrums
• Building a solid foundation for tomorrow

Participation Information
This is a series class and participants must plan on attending all four weeks. 

Travel the globe without leaving the library! Now on the first Tuesday of each month, we’ll explore a different country through its snacks and sweets. Come curious, leave full!

Sleep Wellness-Wednesday, March 4 at 5:30 p.m.  EST (This will not be recorded)

• Daylight saving time can throw off your sleep schedule, leaving you tired and irritable. Join our Sleep Basics Workshop to learn practical tips for adjusting smoothly, boosting energy, and making the most of longer days.
• Are you ready to leave for college or be out on your own? Are you prepared to do adult tasks and have skills to be successful? Michigan State University Extension's Adulting 101 programs help teenagers and young adults demystify the obscure reality of being an “adult” through engaging educational sessions. January 22 – Celebrating Michigan’s Birthday with a Clay Hand Building Project – As of January 26, 2025, Michigan is 188 Years old! It became the 26th state to join the United States in 1837. Celebrate this birthday my making your own Michigan themed clay try with some of your favorite Michigan symbols. (students will need to sign up for the Glazing class on March 5 to finish their project.)

January 29 – National Puzzle Day – Create your own 8×10 inch puzzle design using paint markers.

February 5 – Vintage Valentine Theme Mixed Media Collage – and cards if time permits. Collage is adhering images and scrapes of paper in an overlapping manner. There can be pop-outs, stamping, dry brush techniques with a little paint and more! Myleigh Rohner, Guest Instructor

February 12 & 19 – Two Week Wendy’s Whimsical Birds of a Feather Exhibit – For Wendy’s Celebration of Youth Art Month in March! Think about the whimsical bird species that you would like to create out of Wendy’s containers and plastic ware. Must be able to attend both of these sessions to finish.

February 26 – Clay Slumped Texture Bowl – (Hand Building) Learn about adding different textures to a slab of clay to make a bowl that is uniquely yours! (Students will also need to sign-up for the Glazing class on March 5 to finish their project.)

March 5 – Glazing – Finishing the two clay projects from January 22 and February 26. Clay projects will be fired a second time and available at the next class.

March 12 & 19 – Two Week Spring Themed Glue Batik – Must be able to attend both sessions. Using glue as the resist, students will create a design then let it dry until next week for painting with fluid acrylics. When dry, the glue will be washed out.

March 26 – Glass Fused Dish – Create a spring design on a 6inch square glass tile that will be fused flat and then fired a second time, slumped in a mold (Finished dish will be 5.5 inches)

Children of all ages can stop by the Owosso children's library to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss and National Reading Month by making a variety of book themed crafts and activities!

Over three Saturdays every February and March, the City of East Lansing celebrates diversity by hosting a Children's Cultural Concert Series. It features live musical entertainment for children of all ages. Additional details about the types of concerts held will be provided below when available.

360° Interactive Map: Explore the building virtually prior to your visit

Sensory Backpacks: Available on-site with social stories, noise-reducing earphones, PEC cards, and sensory tactiles

Also available on-site: Wheelchairs (child and adult sizes, limited quantity), wheelchair tray, compression/weighted vest, weighted blanket. 

Explore your Science Center with select exhibits altered to reduce sounds, scents, and lighting stimuli. Guests can expect a limited building capacity, pop-up activity, and map designating the sensory experiences in each exhibit.

Join 4-H staff as we meet scientists from across Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, the MSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and more! Take a look into life as a fisheries and wildlife researcher and manager! Follow along as we climb through bogs, peer into bear dens, mist net songbirds, snorkel for fish, or perhaps even tag deer. Meet researchers, learn about their field work, and the education and career path they've followed to get there.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:
Sessions last approximately 30 minutes and will feature 1-2 guest researchers. Following presentations, youth will be encouraged to ask questions to learn more through a live Q&A with scientists. Suggested audience age is 12-19 years. Viewers are encouraged to watch together with their families.

This series is open to both 4-H members and non-4-H members. The series is free of charge.

Monthly Sessions will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. ET through March.

Celebrate the seasons with your senses! Early On of Genesee County and the Sloan Musuem of Discovery have partnered again to offer free family fun to the community. Our monthly events will include at least 2 hands-on activities relating to the seasons, exploration of Hagerman Street Gallery and the Discovery Hall’s Water Table, book giveaways, and dinner. These events are kindly recommended for families with children aged 0-5 years-old. Older siblings are welcome to attend.

🧸✨ Stuffie Sleepover at the Library! 🧸✨ 

Children are invited to drop off their stuffed animal on Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for an overnight sleepover at the library.  

When dropping off their stuffie, children will create a name tag and fill out an emergency contact form for their furry friend.

Library staff will capture all the fun as the stuffies enjoy their nighttime adventures.

Spider webs are soft when spun but become incredibly strong when woven — inspiring scientists to design better structures. Now it’s your turn!

Use yarn, tape, and plastic cups to build a structure that holds as many cubes as possible (without linking them). Work alone or with a partner, get creative, and test your design!

Think like a spider. Build like a bioengineer.

Class Information

Parenting stress? New baby in the house? Trouble with tantrums? Learn how to help your young child manage their strong emotions! Building Early Emotional Skills or BEES is a four-week class for parents and other primary caregivers of children 0-3 that teaches about how young children develop social emotional skills and helps give parents skills to deal with the stress of caring for children and help their children develop strong social emotional skills. BEES will help you learn about:

• Your child’s temperament and stress
• Your triggers and how to manage them
• Being reflective about feelings and emotion coaching
• Reducing biting, conflict and frustration and handling tantrums
• Building a solid foundation for tomorrow

Participation Information
This is a series class and participants must plan on attending all four weeks. 

Parents, caregivers, and children are invited to join us for a fun and interactive Play & Storytime session at the library. It's a great time to introduce your child to the library.  

• Little ones can explore and enjoy our collection of toys and learning kits,                                                                         
• Miss Abra will read stories.                                                                 
• Children can participate in hands-on activities or crafts.

Play and Storytime is planned for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome.  

Join Alyson & Danielle for the most chaotic, creative, and totally slay activities around! Games, laughs, surprises, food ---you don't wanna miss it!

Join your Science Center in the First Impression Room for storytime sessions throughout 2025! STEM Storytime takes place the last Thursday of each month. Visitors will listen to themed books, explore a special sensory bin, and play with friends! STEM Storytime begins at 10:30 a.m. and is designed for children 2 to 4 years old.

Looking for a reason to get out of the house and connect with other moms? Join us for a casual, welcoming, and kid-friendly gathering at the library, perfect for moms with young children. Kids can play independently or with each other while moms enjoy conversation, coloring, or a simple activity together. Take a break and enjoy a supportive space to connect and unwind.

Moms meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. If a holiday falls on that date, the gathering will be held the Thursday before.

Pre-registration is encouraged.

January 8 – Snowy Owl in Oil Pastel – on black textured pastel paper– Snowy Owls are a stunning species with bright yellow eyes and soft white feathers. They are the largest owl species in North America by weight. Myleigh Rohner, Guest Instructor

January 15 – Snowflake Painting – Watercolor with a touch of acrylic

January 22 – Celebrating Michigan’s Birthday with a Clay Hand Building Project – As of January 26, 2025, Michigan is 188 Years old! It became the 26th state to join the United States in 1837. Celebrate this birthday my making your own Michigan themed clay try with some of your favorite Michigan symbols. (students will need to sign up for the Glazing class on March 5 to finish their project.)

January 29 – National Puzzle Day – Create your own 8×10 inch puzzle design using paint markers.

February 5 – Vintage Valentine Theme Mixed Media Collage – and cards if time permits. Collage is adhering images and scrapes of paper in an overlapping manner. There can be pop-outs, stamping, dry brush techniques with a little paint and more! Myleigh Rohner, Guest Instructor

February 12 & 19 – Two Week Wendy’s Whimsical Birds of a Feather Exhibit – For Wendy’s Celebration of Youth Art Month in March! Think about the whimsical bird species that you would like to create out of Wendy’s containers and plastic ware. Must be able to attend both of these sessions to finish.

February 26 – Clay Slumped Texture Bowl – (Hand Building) Learn about adding different textures to a slab of clay to make a bowl that is uniquely yours! (Students will also need to sign-up for the Glazing class on March 5 to finish their project.)

March 5 – Glazing – Finishing the two clay projects from January 22 and February 26. Clay projects will be fired a second time and available at the next class.

March 12 & 19 – Two Week Spring Themed Glue Batik – Must be able to attend both sessions. Using glue as the resist, students will create a design then let it dry until next week for painting with fluid acrylics. When dry, the glue will be washed out.

March 26 – Glass Fused Dish – Create a spring design on a 6inch square glass tile that will be fused flat and then fired a second time, slumped in a mold (Finished dish will be 5.5 inches)

Get creative with Jamie Wagner as she leads an adorable clay bird feeder class! Spring is coming and the birds will be singing! 

You'll have a choice of glaze color. Jamie will take the feeders to be fired. The library will notify you when your piece is ready for pickup.

Join us each Tuesday for a 1-mile loop around the village of Morrice. All athletic skills welcome, we all walk at our own pace, some patrons walk faster than others and that is welcome.  Meet at the Morrice Library at 11am ready to walk.  

Please no dogs.  

We will cancel walking club if there is inclement weather, notifications are sent via email or text to patrons who have registered.  

Snacks will be provided after we finish walking.

This story time is geared towards children 2 and 3 years old. Join Cindy Kinsey for a fun time every Tuesday at 11am to hear a story, do a craft and have a snack.
